things that make my heart burst (in a good mommy way)

yesterday, a lady from church gave us a really pretty wooden cradle for our in-coming little man to sleep in the first couple months or so. it's that kind that has 2 legs and rocks. as soon as it came in the house rachel asked what it was and i told her it was a bed for baby lucas. she quickly went and got her new babydoll and put the baby to bed in the cradle. now, when i say "put the baby to bed" i don't mean she just put the baby in the bed and left it at that. oh no. this is a very complicated and delicate process. this involves rocking her baby in her arms while quietly singing "when the wind blows treetop, when the wind blows treetop" for a good couple minutes. then comes the placing of the baby in the bed. much harder than you'd initially think. this delicate process must go just right or it must be repeated from the beginning! she carefully lowers the baby down and covers her with one of her precious blankets (this is true sacrifice i'm witnessing), all the while whispering "it's time for bed. let's take a nap. it's ok. it's ok. i know i know. time for sleep. night night baby. etc." then she rocks the baby in the cradle. then she tells me to "shhhh" b/c the "baby's sleeping." then it's time to wake up the baby. she gently tiptoes up to the cradle and whispers (yes, a 2-year-old whispering!) "good morning, baby. time to get up. need to get changed." and the process starts all over again. i think i have a pretty good helper on my hands here.

Moments like this make me so excited that we're having a girl. :-) How many more weeks for you?

Rachel will be great with baby Lucas...Definitely a benefit to having a girl first is that little motherly instinct...
